The Association of Illinois School Library Educators has awarded Dominican University’s School of Information Studies the 2023 Pillar Award.

The award recognizes the school for its support of the association, school libraries, and school library professionals, “as well as being a supporting, integral, upstanding member or part of the AISLE annual conference experience,” the association said.

Dr. Don Hamerly, SOIS director, and Dr. Sujin Huggins, professor and director of the School Library Media Program at Dominican, will attend the AISLE Fall Conference’s banquet and ceremony on Oct. 1 in Champaign, Illinois where the award will be presented.

“It’s an honor as a temporary caretaker of Dominican’s School Library Media Program to accept the award on behalf of those who shepherded this program long before I arrived — including Dr. Sujin Huggins, the current director of the program,” Hamerly said. “Participating in AISLE is such a joy because of the many DU alumni who help keep AISLE the important advocacy and support network that it is. I know that Dominican and AISLE will be partners for years to come.”

The Association of Illinois School Library Educators provides leadership and support for the development, promotion, and improvement of the school library media profession and programs in Illinois.
